Merry Christmas, World!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Today is a very special day.

December 25 is the day that we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

He was the promised Messiah who came to earth to show all mankind the way back to God, our Father in Heaven.  His birth, foretold by all the holy prophets, heralded by angels, and signified by the new star, began in the humblest of circumstances.

And yet the heavens rejoiced and we shouted for joy!  The Son of God had been born.  He would show us the right way to live so we could have joy and happiness, teach us eternal precepts that allow us to share that joy and happiness with others, and  pave the way for us to return to that God who is our Eternal Father in Heaven where we can live forever in joy and happiness!

His earthly life culminated with his suffering and death, whereby He paid for all our pains, sins, and transgressions so we can be forgiven if we repent and follow Him, thus enabling us to return to live with our Heavenly Father for all eternity.

And He was resurrected.  Spirit was reunited with the body.  He was the first to be resurrected.  The sting of death is swallowed up in His victory over death!  And His free gift to all is that everyone, regardless of circumstance, will likewise be resurrected!  We will all live forever through all eternity!

This is the good news of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.  The great plan instituted by God, Himself before the world was, has been carried out just as He planned.  And it will culminate just as He designed that it should.  His great plan includes every one of us, His children.  We each have a place in His plan, and in His heart.  Look to your Heavenly Father and He will help and guide you in all things.  Just ask Him for His help.  You can trust Him.  He will deliver you, strengthen you, and show you how you may partake of all of His choicest blessings so that you can live together forever with your loved ones in peace and happiness with Him in His eternal courts on high.  Eternal happiness can be yours!

Merry Christmas.

At Peace With Each Other

A beautiful moment.

Watching an old movie, Rio Grande with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara.  It’s in black and white, but has a pretty good story line, so it’s not that noticeable.

My beloved husband by my side, head on my shoulder.

It feels comfortable, peaceful.

We have reached a level of understanding and love that enables us to look past differences that divide and concentrate on similarities that unite.

Joy.  Happiness.  Peace.

There is so much in life that truly does not matter in the Eternal scheme of things.

Yet that is usually where we end up spending our time and energy.  Particularly energy.

We try with all our might to get the other person to see things our way…the “right” way…the only way!

What’s the result?

Contention.

Hurt feelings.

Separation.

So what is the solution?  Is there an answer?

Yes, of course there is an answer.  And you find it periodically and revel in it.  But then before you know it, it is gone again….

How can you “find” it more often?  And make it more permanent?

By taking a step back and considering things from a larger point of view.  Yes, from the Desire Higher path!  From the Eternal point of view.

What is important in the Eternities?

Family, friends, loved ones.  We want to be close to them always, don’t we?

So when he forgets that important date, when she spends too much money, when the little one spills his milk, or big sister is unkind, rather than reacting hastily in a negative way that comes oh, so naturally, count to ten, say a prayer, walk away, or think of a time that brought you close together.  This will help us feel more grounded, see past the moment, and be willing to overlook the problem, and work together towards a solution.  This keeps our feelings of closeness intact and makes it easier to get past the bad times and enjoy the good times!

The result?

Joy.  Happiness.  And peace.  🙂

Letter From Missionary 11/12/12

Thanks for sharing about your mission! I look forward to hearing more!

Things here have been interesting. I was in a trio for only a little over a week this time, we got a call Friday that one Elder was going to be leaving Sunday. So now it is two of us covering both areas. It has been fun, really reminds me of how quickly things change in my mission.

We had an incredible lesson with one of our investigators on Sunday. Going into the lesson I had no idea how I was going to teach, to say the least. I felt very inadequate and unsure about what was needed. Here I am, a missionary, supposed to be able to teach and I had nothing. But I felt the reassurance of the spirit and so together (the spirit, my companions and I) we began to teach.

Not entirely sure how it happened but as we taught it was clear that we were not doing any teaching, it was entirely the Spirit. The Spirit worked on my end by giving my words power, and more especially it worked on our investigator’s end by giving her exactly what it was that she needed to feel, relief. After having her kneel and pray she was feeling the power of the spirit so strongly, and better yet she spoke of how she could feel after praying, whereas before there was nothing.

You always hear about stories like that, but whenever it happens for yourself it feels…great.

Thanksgiving Letter from Missionary Son

Hey! Last week was a lot of fun.

People would ask if I had any thanksgiving traditions back home and I told them that we did.

Our Thanksgiving consisted of creating and executing a plan to best take advantage of black friday. That was our tradition, the turkey was just fuel to make the planning session more fruitful. The gathering of our family was just to avoid a conference call explaining everyones role. Glad to hear this year was no different 🙂

Out here we had a great thanksgiving, one of our investigator couples invited us over to their family’s house. We met a lot of people and introduced the church to most of them. We were able to leave a very good impression with them.

Had a great experience this week where my companion and I felt we needed to change our plans, but we had no idea to what. So we opened our area book to a “random” page and called the lady, turns out she stopped meeting with missionaries months ago because she got busy, but she has been wanting to meet again, she was very excited we called. We set up a time to go and see her soon.

Incredible how God will place you where he needs you! Have a Great week!

Ready to Enjoy Christmas!

I love Christmas!

I love the spirit of Christmas!

I love Christmas music, Christmas lights, Christmas cards, Christmas foods, Christmas decorations, Christmas snow…and,

Most of all, I love the reason for the season, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the person whose birth we celebrate at Christmas time!

But the Christmas season is over all too soon.

This year should be better because Thanksgiving came so early we get an extra week between the two holidays.

I want to make the most of the season because I love feeling the spirit of Christ.  And Christmas time certainly helps us feel that more than usual.

So I have a question for you…

What do you do to feel the spirit of Christmas?
